Please review the following information for our procedures in the event of inclement weather.

Tornado Plan:

  1. Children and Staff Members are prepared for a tornado by practicing monthly Tornado Drills from April through September.
  2. Children will be accompanied to the storm shelter, located on the lower level of the building, or a previously approved main floor interior classroom and will be instructed to maintain a crouched and covered head position.
  3. Parents/guardians will be called as soon as safety allows.  The telephone will not be answered until all signs are clear.

Flood Plan:

  1. Loving Arms™ Child Care and Preschool is not located in an identified flood area; however, if a flood were to occur, Loving Arms™ Child Care and Preschool staff will follow instructions of emergency personnel for ensuring children’s safety.

Severe Weather Plan:

  1. If weather becomes severe, we will take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of children in our care.
  2. The Board of Directors makes all final decisions regarding Center closings, early dismissals and/or delayed starting times.
  3. As a general rule, when USD 475 cancels school for the day, Loving Arms™ Child Care and Preschool will also close. However, the Loving Arms™ Child Care and Preschool Board of Directors, at their sole discretion, may choose to close the Center even if USD 475 holds classes. For this reason, it is imperative that you monitor your email, text messages, Twitter, and Facebook.
  4. If USD 475 dismisses school early due to weather Loving Arms™ Child Care and Preschool will pick up our before and after school children that are registered for full time care.
  5. The ultimate decision whether or not a child should attend care or stay home is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
  6. It is not possible to notify every parent personally; therefore announcements regarding Center closings, early dismissals and/or delayed starting times will be made on text message, Facebook and Twitter.
  7. Announcements regarding Center closings due to inclement weather will be made no later than 6:00AM via Facebook, Twitter or text message. (It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that you are signed up to receive the text alerts and to follow Loving Arms™ Child Care and Preschool on Facebook and Twitter)
  8. Announcements regarding early dismissals will be made as soon as a decision is made by the Board of Directors and broadcast via text message, Facebook and Twitter.
  9. Announcements regarding delayed starting times due to inclement weather will be made no later than 6:00AM via text message, Facebook and Twitter.
  10. When extreme cold temperatures and dangerous wind chill conditions exist, parents/guardians are reminded to dress their children warmly and to cover all exposed skin surfaces. Parents/guardians are to make the final decision as to whether or not their child(ren) should attend care.
  11. In any emergency situation that requires evacuation of the building, our designated meeting place will be at Living Word Ministries International located at 1704 St. Mary’s Road. Please wait for a Loving Arms™ Child Care and Preschool staff member to contact you with further instructions before attempting to pick up your child.
